Already happening, IIM Vizag is being helped by IIM Bangalore. A friend is closely involved. Guidance more in terms of structuring curriculums, examinations, visiting faculty etc etc. But they have diluted the whole IIM and IIT Brand by all these •••••• new ones. | ||

Yeah, figure heads aka party appointees like Gajendra Chouhan ruling over FTII...seriously, a two bit actor heading the premier Film institute in India. IIMs or IITs history lo rarely have there been issues of misuse of power, corruption etc. So i would rather have the faculty have this power, because history shows that they have handled their power well rather than figure heads who have no understanding of the daily operations. It almost feels like you want figureheads to have more power than faculty...

Currently the IIMs (mainly A,BC,C) are largely self governing, receive limited grants, the board is there more for display. The Board delegates functions to the Director (who too is actually a figurehead in a way) who in turn delegates many functions to the Faculty Council. The faculty council is all important (every permanent faculty becomes a part of the faculty council) and they take decisions on all important and operational matters. Now the Central govt. is first taking over the Board by appointing most of the Board members and is retaining most of the functions that were handed over to the Faculty councils earlier. For instance currently the Faculty Council appoints 2-3 members to the Board of Directors, under the new proposal the Govt. also appoints the faculty directors. So we will have a situation of faculty seeking blessings of Smriti Irani etc etc. There are a few other overarching clauses which are also quite dictatorial. Too legal to cover here. I and a core group of our batch yesterday wrote to MHRD and are going to start a petition on change.org. Also speaking to our contacts in the press, TV channels, etc to get some media coverage. | ||

In my view, hierarchy of guilt: 1) Pankaja Munde - if proven 2) Vasundhara 3) Smriti Irani 4) Sushma But in terms of my selfish interest, first aaa Smriti Irani ni padesi dobbandi, IITs, IIMs and other key institutions ni takeover chesthandi...i don't think most of you are deeply involved with these institutes, i am closely engaged with Directors, Professors, Alumni etc and the turmoil in these institutes is excessive. My main grudge is in their motive, what was broken that they are trying to fix. And for those who say that these are govt. funded and hence govt. should control (that govt. is itself warped, though let's ignore that), the older IIM (not sure about IITs) get very little grants from the government and to a large extent fund themselves. There is whole climate of anti-intellectualism that the govt. is creating in the academic circles. | ||
