Whip violation is different from other evidences of defection. A whip can be issued to abstain from voting and upon getting vote recorded, the party can seek disqualification. Courts have intervened when whip violating defectors were not disqualified by the speakers. | ||

To the best of my knowledge, second preference votes are counted only when a candidate is eliminated. That too, only the second preference votes of those who voted for the eliminated candidate. In this case, if one candidate is eliminated, the other 6 will get elected even before second preference are counted. Had there been 8 nominations, second preference would have been counted. | ||

How does second option matter? Second option is counted only when the first option candidate gets eliminated and there still are more candidates than seats. In this case, if any one gets eliminated, the remaining six will all get elected. | ||
