Saying no is something we all Indians find very hard to say, rather than giving a straight answer we always try to beat around the bush. But I have observed that no one else in the rest of the world does this. Our social conditioning and brought up environment denies us to be straight forward. Personally, any signs of my straight forwardness were always corrected by my elders and they encouraged me not to say a direct no. For example, if you have been invited to an event and you cannot make it as the date clashes with another event, when I tried to give this reason to the 2nd host my parent corrected me to say "I will try my level best to come, I would love to come" Why do we, as Indians, have to do a lot of crowd pleasing ? |
