I think the prosecution will appeal in the SC and since there is inconsistency between the trial court and HC decisions, the SC will likely take it up for hearing. Lets see how long that takes and what the SC decides if they do indeed hear an appeal on this... | ||

Salman case lo shock emundi? Trial court found him guilty and sentenced him and he went for an appeal in the High Court and got bail. Jayalalitha was also found guilty by the trial court just like Salman and she too got bail from higher court (SC in this case) after appealing in HC. The only difference is that Salman's appeal is a regular appeal case in HC whereas Jayalalithas appeal was an expedited one with a special bench in the HC since the SC thought this was an important case that warranted expeditious disposal. | ||

As per a supreme court order, a special bench was constituted for this case and the appeal is being disposed a day before the 3 month deadline set by the SC. What do you think the verdict will be? I think there may a slight modification in the sentence and some modification in the amount of fine (round figure Rs100 crores decided by the trial judge may not be thoroughly justified). But I don't see any change in the pronouncement that she is guilty. I think she will be sent back to jail and this time since it is a high court judgement sending her to jail, bail would be much more harder even if the SC agrees to hear her second appeal. |
