Businesses have to evolve with time.BSNL/MTNL land line vadakam taggipoyindhi ani oka mulaa kurchunnara? They ventured into cellular field too alage telcos have to innovate. BTW telcos not only get paid for outgoing data charges but even get paid for incoming data from the originating network.

Filmbuff:

a call on Skype or Whatsapp will add to your data consumption and accordingly cost you.

100% correct.
In fact the data rates in india are so high. Voice calls are cheaper than calling over skype/viber/hangout/whats etc

data plan rates min : 1 GB would cost INr 250
with INR 250 , we can get a lot more STD/local calls than that can be made using data connection

But their data revenues will move up right...it is not like they will start making losses..a call on Skype or Whatsapp will add to your data consumption and accordingly cost you.

may be cellular data meeda use chese skype & other voip calls needs to be charged too.. if its traditional broadband @home.. it should be exempted.. some thing of this sort might be happening ..

Per PPP .. India costs a little more than US! :-)

eperate ga istaru ga, if you bring your own device...You can increase data plan, if you are over the limit..

yeah but that is not the model that majority use kada. You can't really compare costs between US & India because business models are different.

In the context of the net neutrality debate in India, the CEO of Bharti, Gopal Vittal said the cost of data in US is $30 per GB and in India it is $3.5 per GB. And if we were to move to US kind of situation where calls on VOIP were also free, then our data prices also need to move to US levels. Of course the bugger did not take into account purchasing power parity, one can't compare prices in India with prices in US.

But can anyone give me average data prices in US say for 1/5/ 10 GB per month.
