I have seen some of the wisest men write about our new capital and how building it will have an impact on Food Security of India .. I would like to present a few facts as a person living for over 3 decades in that area. Krishna delta starts from Prakasam Barrage at Vijayawada, in the map below the area above the red line are uplands (metta) and below the red line are delta lands. The capital is built upstream of the barrage , and it is 100% in the uplands area. Some people are making a hue and cry about jaribu lands, where 3 crops are grown. These lands are shown as a blue strip in the capital region. They occupy an area of maximum 15km x 1km to 1.5km along the banks of river krishna. We have to include these lands because they form the water front for river krishna. They are just 10% of total lands in the capital area. All the hue and cry that is being raised is for this small strip of lands. Rice is not grown in these lands. Anna Hazare and Sivaramakrishnan needs to be told about these. The farmers of Undavalli, Penumaka Nidamarru and bethapudi are making the most noise, these villages are along the Vijayawada - Mangalagiri road (where red and yellow lines go parallel) these areas are semi urban and the land values in these villages have risen as a bypass was already announced through these villages. 90% of the balance 700 acres to be pooled is in this area. These farmers are egged by rich vijayawada industrialists who own land on the banks of krishna river and built their illegal guest houses there. Farming is the last thing in the minds of these people. Even in the Master plan for CRDA region, areas like satenapally, Nandigama , nuzvid and gannavaram are planned as hubs , most of these fall in the upland area. This propaganda that fertile areas are being spoilt is all wrong , if we have to feel bad , we have to feel bad about that small strip of land shown in blue. I hope I made my point .. Correct or add info in your comments. |
