Investments keep flowing into Andhra Pradesh
I'm happy to share with you that the Yokohama City Council of Japan has come forward to collaborate with our government in making Kakinada a smart city.
Yokohama is Japan’s second largest city. In November last year, I had visited Yokohama Port.
Following my visit, Yokohama port president Masayuki Takashima and other delegates today gave a presentation on the “Yokohama City” development.
Their City Centre Enhancement Project, Kanazawa Reclamation Project, Konoku New Town, Subway Lines and transportation and Underground Expressway Projects are what makes Yokohama what it is today.
An essential cause for city’s development is the Council's constant consultation with people and their participation in the development.
They will be visiting Kakinada soon and will identify areas of collaboration with the government. An MoU will soon be signed between the Government and Yokohama City.
I have sought their expertise in revamping the city, waste management, tourism and reducing pollution.
Given that Japan is strong in hardware, I have also asked them to lend their expertise and support in our Electronics and Hardware Park in Kakinada.
In an earlier meeting with David Cheesewright, president and CEO of Walmart International, our government has decided to set up a task force to promote agri-processing sector.
Mr. Cheesewright told me that Walmart wants to collaborate with our government in sourcing agriculture commodities from local farmers, increasing productivity and capacity building in the agriculture sector.
I have asked them to ensure that farmers get better price for their produce. Currently, Walmart is sourcing cashewnuts, red chillies, coconuts and sweet lime from our state.
Further, I have also asked Walmart India executives to work with our agriculture and horticulture departments in identifying additional agriculture commodities, vegetables and fruits which can be sourced from the state.
I have asked Walmart to make Andhra Pradesh a global sourcing hub for agri commodities. I also asked them to source fruits from Ananthapur, which will become a horticulture hub.
With such optimism from companies and investors from other countries, I'm confident that Andhra Pradesh has a bright future. A day is not far away when we will see Andhra Pradesh as a model state for the country.
