You have the classic confusion between writing and direction. Director has only two jobs apart from coordinating the crew: 1. Visualising the shot/shot making 2. Getting performaces from the talent We are talking about director Zack snyder who will be in history for his contribution to shot making. If his script choice is bad, that doesnt automatically make him a bad director.

Slow Mo technique Jack is not the first one to use rather you'll remember John woo when we talk about it. Reservoir Dogs opening sequence chudu you'll understand how it has to be used. Maa guruvu gaaru Brian De Palma is the pioneer in using this technique in The Untouchables not Synder like you think. Jack Synder over does his slow mo, green/grey screen & heavy background music part. Rather than movies he tends to make 2 hour music videos anochu.

The shot famously called "300 shot" where a simple technique of "ramping" the motion was used, it has become a standard shot in all action movies from hollywood to tfi. I dont think this is the first time but he popularized it just like vertigo shot became famous in the hands of hitchcock In the same 300 movie, he used a technique of showing a master two shot and a flawless zoom to make it a profile mid of the spartan (here this zoom he used is interesting), and pan it at the same focal length onto the persian. all this while doing the famous "ramping" thing. if you read this you wont get it, as on paper anyone could achieve it with onset usual things like: angenieux, a steady hand zoom operator, head operator, a slow mo camera, a post sw to ramp the fps....... But, if you look at the shot you will understand, it is simply not possible to achieve the "zoom" effect he created with human hands. That was robotic precision! Now how he acheived it is a different story. Am cinematographer claims one method and FX magazine claims another. Understandably am cine magazine gives more credit to the onset execution and FX mag gives more credit to post production, lol. But in sherlock holmes 2, guy ritchie used the same shot during "forest to train" fight. Only difference between 300 shot and holmes shot was, guy richie used his trade mark more than 500fps ultra slow motion and ramped it. This is not that first time Guy ritchie used something created by his contemporaries immediately though. But, the best part is he has his own "inventions" in his kitty, Like first person to use ultra slo-mo shot that is more than 500fps. In lock stock two smoking barrels he used that shot on a prototype camera. | ||
