To apply OCI you won't give any originals to start with. Just application form and fees. Once approved they will ask US passport for matchup. But fro PIO to OCI conversion I believe it won't take too long. nenu apply cheyyali avasyaani Sareeraani andari dabbu naake raani | ||

What is the situation for somebody that is already in India before this rule change? My daughter is in India since last August. After this rule chance, no need to report in police station anukunna...do we need to do anything now? She is coming back to US this month. | ||

found it..on one hand they say: OCI in lieu of PIO card: Existing valid PIO cardholders must apply for OCI card under OCI in lieu of PIO card category. Consular fee for this OCI category is Gratis. Applicants will be required to pay CKGS service fee, Indian Community Welfare Fund Fee (ICWF) and fee for any other optional services availed. Initially for a period of 3 months until 17 June, 2015, submission of the application for OCI card in lieu of PIO card will be voluntary. However, after the initial period of 3 months from 18 June 2015, it will be made mandatory. OTOH..they say A PIO Card issued to an applicant shall be valid for his lifetime from the date of its issue provided that such applicant has a valid US or Foreign Passport. The above is valid for existing PIO Cards and as well as New PIO Cards issued post 30th September 2014. PIO Cards holders if staying in India for a period of over 6 months need not go to FRRO (Local) and get their extended stay endorsed. This ruling is done away with. | ||

Children below 16 years do not need to register For Adults No need to report for PIO/OCI card (PIO rule was changed to no reporting in Sep 2014). If having a Visa longer than 180 days, then need to report to local police station withing 14 days (In this case your Passport will be stamped saying that you have to report locally within 14 days) | ||
