I differ on this too. Pharma Research is probably the most secretive after defense research anukunta.. Pharma research scientists are paid handsomly because companies cannot risk losing them. Imagine the risk of a principle investigator who was/is part of a flagship drug leaving for a competitor? | ||

M_S, Parallel development of Drugs kastam regardless of the size of company.Companies here ave niche presence in specific markets for ex - some companies have huge presence in Skin ailment related drugs such as Abbot. Parallel development of drugs is too costly.Getting FDA approval for single drug is itself very difficult. | ||

if thats the only project that is under research, yes indian companies will hands down beat US companies in terms of cost of the project. But rarely such is the case with larger companies(very few small scale pharma companies in the US do research), the cost structure for smaller products is not much different ani naa feeling, i am not including manufacturing here. the reason being, pharma research scientists are not as well paid, even though they are paid higher than indian counter-parts. In manufacturing the cost in india is not even comparable. very cheap labor, and first hand experience tho chepthunnadhi enti ante, skilled worker % in india is very less, in pharma manufacturing units. | ||

why not? that *is* the primary reason kadhaa. from R&D costs to marketing to regulatory, everything is cheaper. In general, waht is interesting is the trade off between regulatory compliance costs vs the risk of *not* having those. the attitudes are a sine curve. | ||

between, pharma companies are more responsible, may be due to FDA and may be because with social media people willing to know the knowledge is everwhere. otherwise couple of decades back they were pretty unethical. | ||

Sometimes apart from competitors, internal project management structure might also drive up costs, i have seen cases where the infra cost of one project affects the pricing of a smaller product, even if it remotely uses any of the infrastructure of the costlier product. anyway, the main cost difference comes from the number of clinical trial iterations. I do not mean to say, the number trials done by US based companies in accordance with FDA is optimal, but its a costly affair, as it not involves personnel but also drags the time line of the project. | ||

Working with clinical trials and commerical tehcnoology div in a pharma comp. While i do not disagree on desire of higher margins but apart from cost of rigorous clinical trials , being in compliance to FDA not only in manufacturing the drug but in marketing as well, makes the final price go up. | ||
