tocqueville kante mundharey greek people talked about it kadhaa .. and that's a downside of democracy. thappadhu. but 'public choice' is probably more applicable to India. the point is not about tyranny of majority here. it's about kejriwal's stand on swaraj. someone who said gram sabhas will be invoked to make every decision and wants to push decision making to the nth possible level by thrusting on individual freedom, now turns the tables on swaraj?

I don't know the context of his speech around Swaraj or his intent. And i think the whole party mess is good, it will show people the true colours of everyone. That is why i wanted these guys in power, unless you give everyone a chance, one can't judge them. Let their performance over the next few years be a judge. On the Swaraj and voting point in the video, or the other points - funny thing he is largely correct. The founding fathers of modern liberal thought like Alexis De Tocqueville or James Madison were against broad based voting to elect leaders as they felt it would lead to tyranny of the majority. Similarly getting the public to vote on every topic and get their views is also meaningless as that would lead to a situation where India would still be practising untouchability, Khaps would rule the world, Widow remarriage would be banned.. | ||
