Then how do you qualify for itemized? You have to take either itemized or standard deduction whichever is greater. Also there is a limit on itemized too, you cannot go less than min. tax limit. In your case, based on what you have given, you are not benefiting with itemized if your all deductions don't cross 12400 | ||

Check your W2, if there is any deduction for any state. That should tell you whether you need to file for a state tax or not. Otherwise just go for federal.
