Hindu link that you've posted doesn't mention anything about 15K acres maybe the youtube video does so i'll take your word on that and yes 15K acres is a lot but at the same time 3K acres is the bare minimum to build a greenfield airport. Second point is that the current airport in vizag can't be scaled up anymore so even if you want to have extra parking bays in future it'll not be possible if additional land is not acquired. Instead of going through this tedious process it makes more sense to go for greenfield airport. Indian cities have their share of problems, but they are also places where you can walk around their shadiest areas at 1 am and be safer than say parts of Chicago, NYC, London, Madrid, Sydney etc... | ||

In the goog maps that you posted only airside areas are clearly marked. Anything outside of airside areas i.e catering offices, fuel farms, cargo handlers etc…. depending on the capacity of the terminals keep changing. You are only comparing the active runway areas so any airport will have a similar size. You need at least 3K acres for a greenfield airport to be of international standards which can receive A 380s in the future.
