NUC is just a PC. That's it. Nothing more. And, it is expensive. Yes, I am saying that.

Intel makes this tiny box (like Apple's mac mini), where CPU is soldered to motherboard. That's all you get.

You have to buy mSATA card for storage (say, 60GB), some memory (4 or 8GB), wifi/BT card and keyboard/mouse combo.

Moreover, it does not come with any OS. You can buy windows license or put free linux edition. OpenElec is a popular free OS for HTPC use.

You can go with entry level NUC (celeron) and minimal configuration for about $350. Or, get a juicy NUC with high config for $700.

Pros: Tiny, absolutely silent (fanless), powerful to decode all video/audio formats without any hiccups, ease of setup

Cons: Price, price and price.

You can also look at some competing products like Gigabyte Brix, Asus vivopc

Also, you may get good deals on used NUCs on eBay.
