Good demand for Bengaluru flights

Second flight of IndiGo to the Garden City from Vizagto be operated from February 23

Air Costa is already operating a daily direct flight from Vizag to Bengaluru in the mornings. Air Asia has also planned to operate direct flights from Vizag to Bengaluru but the launch has been delayed by the airline reportedly due to the crash of its flight in the Java Sea in December last year.

Hope AP can take advantage of this

A multi-pronged strategy encouraging bulk drug manufacturing to reduce dependence on imports, setting up of clusters for small and medium-sized pharma companies, making changes to the existing regulations to promote medical devices production is being chalked out by the Centre.

The measures, in various stages of formulation, are focused on providing impetus to the pharmaceutical industry and making medicines as well as medical devices affordable and accessible. This was the underlying message Joint Secretary to the Department of Pharmaceuticals Sudansh Pant underscored addressing the CEO Conclave organised at the ISB campus here as part of the Bio Asia 2015 convention. }}

An Australia-based power giant is keen on setting up 5000 MW of coal-based thermal power project along the Machilipatnam coast in Krishna district. Seeking anonymity on the name of their firm and status of their site inspection along the coastline between Machilipatnam and Kruthivennu, a high level expert team from the company inspected the coast a few weeks ago.

âThe Australian company team realized that the existing conditions and environment is suitable to set up a thermal power projectâ, Excise and B.C. Welfare Minister Kollu Ravindra told The Hindu. âThe company sought at least 2,000 acres of land along the coast to come up with the project with a capacity of producing 5000 MWs of power. The company authorities will meet me this week to discuss more details about the projectâ, Mr. Ravindra said.

âWe are welcoming the proponent to set up the mega power project. The status of our talks will be informed to Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu to spare the suitable locationâ, added Mr. Ravindra.

Infrastructure facilities

Since the proponents of thermal power projects along the coastline of Coastal Andhra Pradesh are planning to import coal from countries such as Australia, Indonesia and South Africa through sea route, the company was also reportedly envisaging to import coal from Australia.

âThe proposed deep-sea port in Machilipatnam is likely to be one of the facilities to be available for the company for coal importâ, opined a few officials. âBeing one of the leading coal exporting countries of the world, the Australian companies are exploring options to set up thermal power projects in Indiaâ, said former Union Power Secretary E.A.S. Sarma.

In the late 2000s, Mr. Sarma had filed a petition against the Thermal Power Tech Corporation Limited that proposed 1,320 MW of power project at Polatitippa near Machilipatnam. However, the project was denied environment clearance as the proposed area comprises mangrove forest and falling under the Coastal Regulatory Zone area.

Let's focus on positive happenings in AP.

Post bifurcation, a few exporters moved base from Telangana to Andhra Pradesh, but still the export potential of the region is grossly untapped, said Joint Director of Directorate General of Foreign Trade P.K. Ghosh.

He was delivering a talk at a seminar on âAwareness of export promotion and international businessâ organised by DGFT in association with GSIB, as part of DGFTâs nationwide awareness campaign âNiryat Bandhuâ, at GITAM School of International Business (GSIB), here on Monday.

A DGFT office will start functioning at Vijayawada from April 1, he said. While the Visakhapatnam office will cater to the five coastal districts of the State, the Vijayawada office will cater to the remaining eight districts, he explained.

Interacting with The Hindu , after the seminar, Mr. Ghosh said aquaculture leads the exports from A.P. âBut still there is immense scope to better the aqua exports and other sectors such as ferro alloys, steel and engineering products,â he said. Niryat Bandhu is being organised across the nation to create awareness and encourage entrepreneurship in the realm of exports.

Mr. Ghosh in his presentation dealt with various schemes in the export policy of the country such as Export Promotion Capital Goods Scheme, Focus Market Scheme and Vishesh Krishi Gram Udyog Yojana.

Earlier, Commissioner of Customs and Central Excise C. Rajendran, explained the role of DGFT and Customs and Central Excise in the export and import business.

Dean and Director of GSIB V.K. Kumar in his address said 80 per cent of the world export trade was dominated by the countries in the G20 list. âThough India is in the list, it has a meagre share of about 1.7 per cent, compared to China that commands a whopping 12 per cent and followed by the USA with 8.6 per cent,â he said.

Prof. Radha Raghuramapatruni of GSIB, gave an insight into what is necessary to start an import and export venture and said that commodity, quality and pricing are the three important things that an exporter needs to take care of primarily. A Uma Mahesh from Customs and Central Excise and Pavan Kumar from Krishnapatnam Port also spoke.
