one thing not clear to me was: we sign a form while filing for visa for parents saying we will pay toward their expenses while they are here.. if hospital bills are uncovered, what would hospitals do? Will they come after us? | ||

goodluck Mamamiya786 Been there. Father was hospitalized while he was here; kharma koddee, choosukokundaa teesukunna policy doesnt have the pre-existing coverage; so, insurance said it wont cover the bills. In the heat of the moment, didnt know what docs I signed; didnt know that you shouldnt sign any papers but too late. While in the hospital, cleared most of the bills (daggira daggira 100k ayyindhi for three days in ICU and two days normal stay with labs, therapies and everything else); they had a promotion and said if I could pay it off, they would give 75% discount. If not, have to pay in full. So, while checking out paid close to 25k as I was afraid it will come back bite me. Still keep on getting few other pending bills; trying to ignore; getting calls once a week.. all are with dad's name.. so, just hoping nothing will happen to me.. he left for india now. | ||

As long as bills are on her name, you have nothing to worry. First, make sure insurance pays what they have to pay. Then, there are many things you can do. With hospitals, you can apply for charitable exemption, saying your mom cannot afford the bill (you will have provide supporting documents of her income and all). Most of the hospitals will agree to this if they have received everything they need to get from insurance. Next, You can bargain with everyone, including hospitals and doctors. they usually give you two option, one time reduced payment or monthly payment plan. GO with whatever you feel comfortable. | ||

mamamiya.. emi documents oo teliyadu... but one of my friend father was hospitalized and he made sure that he did not sign any document. Bills went to fathers name. Later hospital finally agreed for some amount. | ||
