Vella tho woody allen comparison anti? Those directors were pioneers in those genres and even till date we continue using those techniques be it in story telling, editing or cinematography. All Woody Allen did was made the depressing canvas made famous by Ingmar Bergman to self-depreciating comedy. At some point you have to give up hope for a better past. | ||

Of course that is his weakness, he can't go out and make a big blockbuster movie like Spielberg, Nolan etc but how many directors can we say have succeeded in doing things outside their genre. And within his genre, there is no end to how many in how many ways can stories be told about human relationships. Hitchcock made mysteries, Ford made Westerns, Kurosawa made samurai movies (largely) but there are so many nuances to explore in each gener. People tend to ignore the early directorial brilliances in Annie hall, Zelig, Manhattan, Hanna and Her Sisters, Purple Rose of Cairo. | ||
