You are now travelling from USA to INDia and stopped in a country common sense says that.. If you are travelling to India and are citizen of india and have a valid Indian passport. That should be enough to let you board the second flight. BUt apparently No, United Kingdom requires that you have a "stamped" US visa. There are few cases where LON airport has "deported" Indian citizens travelling to India with valid indian passport, valid i797 and are only in transit via airport and did not get out of the security area.
