In the modern world, Yoga has become an important tool to live a healthy life that can being a positive difference in our lives. Niti Central has learned through sources in the Government about detailed efforts made by the Indian Embassy in Egypt to popularise Yoga. The Maulana Azad Centre for Indian Culture in Cairo, sources tell Niti Central, has been hosting yoga classes for beginners, intermediate and advanced levels and the outreach programmes, which are running to full capacity. The classes are very popular and the instructor has to teach several people at one time sources informed to Niti Central when quizzed about the response from Egyptians. Yoga goes to Egypt â Niti Exclusive from Cairo Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is a great believer in the benefits of yoga, has been at the forefront of popularising Yoga globally. Modi has on several occasions shared his thoughts on the significance of Yoga saying : NITI SPOTLIGHT BATTLE FOR DELHI File photo of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP national president Amit Shah. (PTI photo) âYoga embodies the unity of mind and body; thought and action; restraint and fulfillment.â Yoga goes to Egypt â Niti Exclusive from Cairo The United Nations had recently adopted an India-led resolution in December 2014 that declared June 21 as International Yoga Day and 177 nations supported the proposal. At that time UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon said, âYoga can contribute to resilience against non-communicable diseases and can bring communities together in an inclusive manner that can generate respect.â Niti Central has learned that the Indian Embassy in its attempt to bring this discipline into the general consciousness of the people has integrated yoga classes into the âIndia Daysâ programme with yoga instructor Bharat Singh conducting special yoga sessions. Yoga goes to Egypt â Niti Exclusive from Cairo In another initiative, sources informed Niti Central, the Indian Embassy is including a âWell-being Weekendâ that will have yoga, meditation and Ayurveda consultations in the 3rd edition of the âIndia by the Nileâ annual festival. The âIndia by the Nileâ is a month-long festival of Performing and Visual Arts that showcases the cultural wealth of India. It aims to bring Egyptian audiences closer to the artistic riches of India, through film screenings, music and dance performances, literature evenings, a visual art exhibition, as well as allow them to taste authentic Indian cuisine. The popular Al Azhar Park in Cairo, which is listed among 60 of the Worldâs Great Places, has been booked for two days as the venue to present yoga to Egypt in a major way during the festival. Yoga goes to Egypt â Niti Exclusive from Cairo According to sources, the Indian Embassy has also sent a proposal to Aayush, which is the separate Ministry for Yoga and Ayurveda constituted by Mr Modi, to depute a Master yoga teacher and two Ayurveda experts for the festival. The festival will also have an exhibition of Ayurveda products. Niti Central has learnt that the Indian Embassy also plans to engage the Yoga master from India to conduct workshops at several Yoga schools in Cairo. Taking the lead on promotion of Yoga since the announcement by the United Nations in December that International Yoga Day will be observed on June 21, the Indian Embassy in Egypt has also organised a Press conference in the Chancery, the administrative complex of the embassy. The conference included the screening of a film on yoga and had live demonstrations by their yoga instructor explained sources to Niti Central. Modiâs dream to present Yoga to the world seems to be getting closerâ especially in Egypt with these efforts of the Indian Embassy. While Bollywood has for long been seen as a vehicle of Indiaâs Soft Power the world over, thanks to Prime Minister Narendra Modiâs efforts India has acquired a new instrument to conduct its Public Diplomacy and connect with people across the world through Yoga. |
