On the other hand, if we go through point 4 carefully, we can see that the Full Reservoir Level (FRL) submergence area is estimated to be around 40,000 hectares (1 Lakh acres) in all three states. However, the Back water Curve (BWC) is not carried out for Andhra Pradesh, while for Orissa and Chattisgarh, these figures are present, WHICH are 3 TIMES higher than the FRL. Hence, the overall effected area for Polavaram project will be around 3 Lakh acres, if we take into account the BWC analysis, which hasn't been technically yet carried out by CWC. BWC will significantly depend on the dam height, which CWC is not disclosing currently, but they claim they have given ALL APPROVALS. This looks absurd, as how they will give all approvals with out deciding the exact dam design and height. If the dam height is more than 46 m, then BWC may cross 4 lakh acres, which is 4 times more than the proposed submergence area. This strongly conveys that the CWC is hiding many important figures, which would significantly effect more than the 7 mandals in Khammam and may include other places like the famous Badrachalam Shri Ram Bhagvan Temple and the whole town. Look at the responses in 11 (from different department of CWC that contradicts with the earlier department), where they have accounted for mere 54000 acres loss of area for the costs, while the other department says the loss area will be around 1 Lakh acres. If we look at point 7, the annual irrigation of Polavaram project is around 4.36 Hectares (10 lakh acres), while the Nagarjuna Sagar is more than 20 lakh acres with 4 times lesser submergence area, and that too it was constructed around 60 years ago, when the environment and forest laws were not too strong. Nagarjuna Sagar also produces 960 MW power in addition to the irrigated area. The point here is not against the construction of dams on Godavari river, but the current design of Polavaram is a KILLER of people, environment, forest, animals, natural place like Papi Kondalu, tribal communities, town like Badrachalam, temples like Shri Ram Bhagavan etc. I think the people have lost faith in all state and central governments, including the current ones. The only way left out is to approach to the Supreme Court and at least change the dam design and reduce the DAM HEIGHT to less than 30 m, so that the damage is minimized. The dam height of 30 m will also protect the lives of people in downstream (Coastal Andhra) in cases of catastrophes relating to maximum floods prone on Godavari river. | ||

This is RTI reveals some interesting and shocking facts which were never noticed in the print and digital media. Firstly, CWC claims ALL APPROVALS are cleared for this project and surprisingly has skipped to answer the 2,3, 5 and 6 questions, which are the most important 2. What is the Dam height of Polavaram Project that has been currently approved by CWC 3. Exact approved design, basis and evaluation of alternative heights of the dam 4. Whether Backflow and Backwater effect is Accounted for deciding the Areas to be Submerged and Rehabiliated. If No, Why No 5. What is the Maximum Flood Level Polavaram Dam is currently designed for 6. What is the Maximum Expected Water Level at Bhadrachalam Town with Maximum Flood Level, including the Backflow and Backwater effect | ||
