yes WD guys made it real easy for end users. Basic private cloud for file sharing dead veasy.. 1-2 hours job Plexi or Tversity buffering issues big head ache Btw, why do you need htpc for running plex? U can use any existing desktop or laptop, right? Don't say you don't have enough time. got it. but still don't understand why do we need it? Keeping folks like you aside, for most of aam junta like us, any h/w media server like boxee or even WD hard drive with media player built in etc.. WD drive can be connected directly to router and you can create a private cloud for remote access Gone are the days where you needed a PC to run as media server IMO Don't say you don't have enough time. Don't need wireless. connect it directly to the router with ethernet. after setup, you don't need monitor either. it runs headless and you access it via RDP. | ||

yes, for streaming both within network and over internet. Manam bayata (friend's home, hotel etc) unnappudu, intlo unna media/files ni access chesukovacchu. Further, you can VPN into your home. It is all built in the server already. | ||

mana server lo website host chesukovacchu... sometimes ISP blocks port 80. In our case, cablevision blocks it on normal plan. If we choose, Boost plan then they provide static IP and opens port 80 for hosting websites. | ||

Now that OS install is complete, it's time for config. Give the computer a name, setup admin password and domain name. Create a non-admin role user. Give it a static IP (like: 192.168.1.50). From now on, RDP into it from another machine (client). On the client machine, visit http://<server-name>/connect This will download the client connector and install on client machine. This will enable remote administration from client. Once you are done with these, let me know. |
