A friend's posting on Facebook...same story in Calcutta Kolkata West International City Buyers Welfare Association Respected Shri Modiji, with lot of hopes and aspirations we are writing to you again and again at both places i.e both here and at your PMO website. we are members of Kolkata West International City Buyers Welfare Association and we have purchased our house in 2006 which was supposed to be delivered by 2008. we all have paid 80% to 100% also my 2008. Kolkata West was first FDI in real estate sector. But till now we have not got our houses. There is no work going on at site since last one year. For Kolkata West project 390 acres of land was provided by Govt of WB at dearth cheap prices and it was marketed as supported by KMDA but due to Mr Prosoon Mukherjee having good connections with state govt and ruling party here in WB ,we are not getting support whatsoever form local authorities. Mr Prasoon Mukherjee has already collected more than 300 crores from us and further more than 500 crores which includes bank and by other launching. I request you to kindly give attention at our plight. You are our only hope against corruption. PMO India |

Filmbuff:Actually the big builders are more at fault, smaller builders somehow get the project done. Delhi and Mumbai are littered with these cases. Your cost of acquisition actually doubles by the time the project is delivered because of the interest cost. They typically collect 90% of the amount by year 2, usually the top floor slab is the milestone for that. But after that they just go silent. They would rotate the money in another venture.

If any other company diverts money to other projects outside its existing projects, it is doing that out of its own resources/ profits etc. If a company raises money from the stock markets and then uses that for some other purposes than disclosed in the RHP, then there are various regulations under SEBI that are covered and investors/ institutions can exert pressure. But here the customer is shortchanged. What is their recourse. The way the RE industry works right now, it is largely a Ponzi scheme. A company start a project, collects 90% of its money in 18 months to 24 months, uses that to start another project, again collect 90% money there and so on. The projects takes ages to deliver. This is the similar situation across all builders - big or small. Unitech to DLF, everyone takes 7-8 years to complete a project.
