This conversion seems to be a massive phenomenon in the last 10-15 years. Our maid, dhobhi, driver, people who help us to do house maintenance(elec, plumber etc) - most of them in my native place in AP are converted christians now. I don't think it was like this before 2000. They will not let go of going to church on Sundays. When I asked them why so, keeping the faith part aside, some of them told me that they get some cash and limited quantities of pulses/oil/groceries etc. I thought the conversions are happening because of the money flowing from foreign countries to the evangelist orgs in AP. It could also be because of the social disparity that is evident in Hindu religion for people who are in lower strata. Though, I see that social disparity even in christians as far as converted christians and economically/socially/financially weak people are concerned. If the people who converted have true faith, they could declare their changed religion to the govt. But, I haven't seem them doing it, they get the ration stuff as usual from the govt and they follow christianity day to day. What do you guys think are the factors driving so many people in AP to convert? | ||
