Hello annai .. Very noble thought of adopting a Dog and that too a 6 yr old .. But as it is ur very first time .. it can be frustrating to adopt a 6 yr old dog from rescue as MS annai pointed out u would never know what it went through .. Also most dogs have one family and for them mental trauma is more when they are left behind by the previous owners .. So for a first timer .. I would suggest to go with a breeder or a puppy from shelter .. for the breeds .. U can never go wrong with Labrador .. I think u dont have kids now and addition of a puppy would enahnce your life for sure .. | ||

naaku endhuku thanks vunkl... i should say thanks to you  for adopting a rescue dog. you must read atleast this one http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/articles/adoptingrescuedog.htm i got one from rescue as well, but mine was a pup when i got her. i wanted to socialize her as much as possible, and andhuke thechina roju ninchi, vipareethanga janaala tho contact unchaanu.... now she wont even warn if there is a robber  .... aadithe tho kooda fetch aadataniki ball oo toy oo pattuku elthundhi .... after the kid was born, she barks if she sees suspicion but appati dhaaka kaneesam barking kooda chesedhi kaadhu.... its all on how a dog has been brought up ... so alot is in our hands, apart from the breed's nature. mine is a GSD and Chow Chow mix, two very stubborn and aggressive breeds. Wife liked the pup a lot so we got her, but after getting her, read abit about this mix, and some of the trainers were really negative about the breed,to the extent that i had second thoughts if my wife will be able to handle such a dog. I conveyed the same to her after couple of weeks, she said no way she will give her back. she turned out to be the sweetest dog ever! so our behavior is of alot of importance. | ||

btw, if you have intentions of having a kid in the family soon, then rethink the whole thing . My suggestion is always,atleast the dog has to be 3 to 4 years, or the kid has to be 5 to 6 years of age before you can add one or the other to the family. If you are brining an elder dog, try to check out how she is around kids. Its very important, but with the breeds you mentioned its usually not a problem. | ||

voook ... my suggestion is spend sometime with the dogs. Adult dogs already have a personality, so it will take sometime for mutual adjustment. konchem patience and lots of commitment kavalenu.... first thing you have to see if she is a happy dog, a happy dog is that one trusts the environment, and people around easily. many older dogs that are in shelter might have had harsh experiences and they might not trust people very easily. If thats the case, you have to be very weary , as it will take a very long time to build a relationship and especially for the dog to trust you. the breeds you have mentioned are very friendly one's and are very rarely aggressive, but like said try to see if the dog has any fears. Fear and anxiety unna dogs ni handle cheyatam konchem kashtam, like i said it takes alot of patience and commitment to handle such dogs. typical fear indications gurinchi chadavandi online, like ear positions, tail positions, shoulder position and so on if you dont already know. also, check what fears the dog has. Usually loud sounds, high pitch sounds, thunders ilantivi common, not much to worry. but if the dog exhibits fear or agression, in presense of strangers, many people around, commotion, kids, other dogs, then she has some issues. If you are not experienced enough, I would not suggest getting such a dog, unless you want to put effort, and may be even have a trainer for 4 or 5 sessions. Frank opinion ayithe dont go by one person's experience in the family, when it comes to an elder dog. Some dogs can easily identify the more dominant or controlling person in the family and be alright with them, but display aggression or stubbornness with the one who lacks the control. So even if your wife as experience, ask yourself if you are comfortable with the dog. after all its a relationship that you will cherish for a long time. If its a one year old dog, i would say with the breeds you have mentioned,you should not have major issues, but look for red flags. If its the 6 to 7 year old, I would suggest more caution, while deciding. If ur idea is to change ur lifestyle by dedicating some time fir the dogs.. then u have to go for an active breed like border collie, jack russell terrier, bearded collie etc. If ur goal is to get a companion for ur kids then u shud be going for gentle gaints like newfoundland, great pyrenees, great swiss mountain dog, st. Bernard etc. Dog maintenance often includes grooming, toilet training, food exoenses, drooling and healthcare etc Dogs 101 series in youtube/animal olanet gives u gud info | ||
