Pawar, however, did not return to state politics and Vilasrao Deshmukh of the Congress was chosen as Chief Minister with Chagan Bhujbal representing the NCP as his deputy.
After the 2004 Lok Sabha elections, he joined the United Progressive Alliance government headed by Manmohan Singh as the Minister of Agriculture. In January 2012, he announced that he will not contest the 2014 Lok Sabha election in order to make way for a younger leadership.[12] Pawar gave up the chairmanship of Empowered Group of Ministers on 2G, days after his appointment by the Prime Minister, fearing that his association with the decision making process would drag him into 2G Spectrum controversy |

Not sure second Gen leaders in INC are anything but manio family sycopants. Someone has to come out of the present coterie and shake things up. For all the noise of pappu lead internal democracy in youth congress not one substancial leader has emerged from the last 15-20 years.

which ever party won more seats in their quota! BJP would have won 125 and Shiva Sena lookin at the current trends no more than 70. As a dominant partner BJP would have gotten the CM position anyway.... |

I don't think BJP split with Shiv Sena. It is the other way round. BJP actually bent down so low that despite being way more stronger than the Sena as proved by the recent Lok Sabha results and also these assembly results, BJP didn't ask for contesting more seats than Sena. They started negotiations with a request for equal seats and quickly agreed to take fewer seats than Sena!! Shocking! But what is even more shocking is that Sena rejected that offer by the BJP and insisted that it is not enough for BJP to contest fewer seats than Sena, they wanted BJP to contest far fewer seats than themselves! That's where the alliance broke! |
