Life imprisonment wud hav been a much bigger punishment for this sick fellow....Many ppl wud prefer to die rather than spend a life in American Prison. The ragging & harassment there wud almost be like Hell.

Death penalty is the easiest & safest route for him. No social pressure nothing. Jst a happy escape route from the world.

May be he is not that dumb. His lawyer presented him with only one option, that is to shut up and show some remorse so he can have a good shot at getting a life imprisonment instead of death penalty. This guy wants to go for DP if he is not going to see any life outside the prison. So he wanted his lawyer to play his "other two guys" story in Indian style. No lawyer would be willing to take that bad press, backlash and bad karma unless you got millions to spend. So he represented himself so he can have a chance of getting with 10 or 15 years if he could succeed in selling his two-men story. If not he wanted to go for DP anyway

Jury decision time lo he said many times death is for sure. Problem is prosecution enthaina konchem weak undey... if only Yandamuri could spend money and get a great lawyer.. he would have shattered that prosecution. Atleast he could have easily reduced the death penalty to life sentence
