Buoyed with the huge participation of people in the intensive household survey conducted on August 19, the Telangana government is now gearing up to correlate the survey data with beneficiaries' information available with various government departments. Though nearly 12 government departments, including civil supplies, housing, panchayat raj and rural development, and the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) have been identified to correlate the survey data with the existing information on beneficiaries, only two departments - civil supplies and the Society for Elimination of Rural Poverty (SERP) - have started the cross-checking. The two departments are currently in the process of weeding out bogus ration cards, and old age and widow pensions. For instance, SERP extracted data on people who are above 65 years of age in each village as per the survey. This information will be correlated with the old age pensions being given in that particular village. Similarly, GHMC would focus on households and property tax data. Sources said while 13.5 lakh houses have been assessed for property tax, the number of households in the GHMC touched 20.39 lakh in the survey. The housing department would utilize the survey results to eliminate bogus beneficiaries of weaker housing scheme. "If there is a huge variation after comparing the survey results and the information available with the departments, the officials concerned would crosscheck the information furnished by people by deputing their staff," a senior official of PR&RD department said. The officials have also asked the National Informatics Centre (NIC) to prepare necessary software to update the survey data of household information. The PR&RD department, which conducted the survey, has finalized the data analysis with the help of NIC. After completing the data entry, it was officially declared that the total number of households in the 10 districts of Telangana are 1.058 crore and the population is about 3.61 crore. During the survey, nearly two lakh households were not visited by the GHMC staff. Later, the officials declared only 40,000 households were left over. After Greater Hyderabad, Karimnagar district has the highest number of households at 12.35 lakh. Similarly, there are 11 lakh households in Nalgonda and Warangal districts, with the lowest being Nizamabad with 7.12 lakh households and 24.45 lakh population. When contacted, the chief executive office of SERP, A Murali, said the data analysis of the intensive household survey is ready and the results would be released once chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao approves it. http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/hyderabad/Telangana- survey-Analysis-in-full-gear/articleshow/43848637.cms In history there is no such thing as the last word on any subject research leads to new things every day |
