When these big hitters win their first slam, most of us rush to the same conclusion that the next star is here. But in most of the cases, this proves to be an one off. Like Marat Safin who, at age 20, when he won the US Open in 2000, was thought that he would be next King. He destroyed Sampras in straight sets. But he won only one other Slam. Repeat for Del Potro, after the 2009 US Open he did not win many big tournaments, leave aside a Slam. My hunch is that Cilic may not win another Slam, or at best he will win one more. It is difficult at the moment though to pick out the next star among Kyrgios, Nishikori, Dmitrov, Raonic, etc. | ||
