it would be too much to expect a Telugu director with limited shelf life (2-10 movies at most) to risk and make something drastically different from accepted template. i wouldn't blame them. they are there to make money. | ||

First things first, it was a surreal experience watching this movie in Nellore as most of the story is based in Nellore. We see references to Nellore Lee Palace, a palatial bungalow in the crowded and crooked streets of Kapadipalem and Penchala Kona as we have never seen it. Take it from me - No such palaces can exist in Kapadipalem. And not one person in the movie seems to have any Nellore accent! Alright. Nitpicking time is over. Let us head to a confrontation scene right in the beginning of the movie. The hero is the God-send for a kidnapped family. The goons who have thirty seven swords pointed at every imaginable organ of the family, do not try to the harm the family at all. They in fact don't even try to warn the hero who is breaking every bone in the vicinity - sometimes even those bones bouncing up and down on the hard rock floor. They simply accept their fate - resign to the stark realization that the director of the movie wanted them to get beaten black and blue with ample red thrown in between without trying the slightest to blackmail the hero with the family they already have in possession. Did I say nitpicking time was over some time ago? Sorry! From a Telugu movie point of view, whatever verbal garbage I have written in the previous paragraph is for sure nitpicking. Wait, don't you dare question the remarkable treatment options - well researched by the director and nicely demonstrated by the actors to bring a person into and out of coma at will. These options include dancing to... I stand corrected "moving hands in a twisted fashion - both literally and figuratively" - to songs from Sagarasangamam, stuffing the comatose guy with ample Whiskey and banging his head repeatedly by people who have only his best interests in their minds. The movie brings a whole new angle to process of "Medically induced Coma" I promise this time - I won't nitpick anymore. Scout's honor. Maa kasam! Let us talk about Brahmanandam as a hapless scapegoat in a very dangerous setting of buffoons. Wait, have we already talked about? We have? Maybe not in this review but in a thousand other movie reviews of similar nature. So let us skip that part for now. Should we? What else can we talk about? How about the two leading ladies - one with an IQ of 15 in a "Blink and You Miss Her in the Movie" (Oh well, there is that obligatory song of course) and the other with an IQ of 14 in a "Damn-it-I-have-blinked-so-many-times-she-is-still-here" role? For a change, let us move on to something positive. The IQ of the screenplay writer. The nuanced screenplay, the umpteen layers in the narration - each narration having a three thousand seven hundred and fifty two villains and the remarkable two bit Chak De India dressing room pep talk that transforms all of them into good natured, well humored in-duh-viduals (Sorry Scott Adams) just in time for the credits to roll up. Oh I completely forgot. All Telugu movie reviews, regardless of how the movie is, should praise the efforts of the leading man. Not doing so is unthinkable - sacrilegious - blasphemy of the highest order. So let me say it right away. NTR is the only silver lining in this "what can loosely be called a movie". He acted so well that he would surely walk away with an Oscar for his performance. Capisce? No? Read it again. Read it again and again. You've been watching the same movie in so many versions again and again. You can read this review again and again till you get it or at least get an idea of how to respond to a question - "Capisce?" Naaku nacchindi janaalaki nacchadu... Janaalaki nacchindi naaku nacchadu... Nenanthe.. adho type. |
