RAJIV GANDHI.. A PM with a vision: 1) Nuclear Power for electricity: even after 25yrs we couldn't complete these nuclear reactors. An Inter-Governmental Agreement (IGA) on the project was signed on 20 November 1988 by then Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi and then Soviet head of state Mikhail Gorbachev, for the construction of two reactors. The project remained in limbo for a decade due to the dissolution of the Soviet Union. 2)He increased government support for science and technology and associated industries, and reduced import quotas, taxes and tariffs on technology-based industries, especially computers, airlines, defence and telecommunications. In 1986, he announced a National Policy on Education to modernise and expand higher education programs across India. |

Manmohan & Modi: Thanks to modi for continuing Manmohan's initiative The Indian Ministry of Railways' white-paper "Vision 2020",[8] submitted to Indian Parliament on December 18, 2009,[17] envisages the implementation of regional high-speed rail projects to provide services at 250–350 km/h, and planning for corridors connecting commercial, tourist and pilgrimage hubs. Six corridors have already been identified for technical studies on setting-up of high-speed rail corridors: Delhi–Chandigarh–Amritsar, Pune-Mumbai-Ahmedabad, Hyderabad-Kazipet-Dornakal-Vijayawada-Chennai, Howrah–Haldia, Chennai-Bangalore-Coimbatore-Ernakulam-Thiruvananthapuram, Delhi-Agra-Lucknow-Varanasi-Patna. These high-speed rail corridors will be built as elevated corridors in keeping with the pattern of habitation and the constraint of land. |

PVNR & Vajpayee idi chaalu sample ki .. they both deserve Bharat Ratna "When I met Rao, he asked me to proceed with the preparation for testing of the nuclear bomb. Subsequently, his (Congress) government lost power and when Vajpayee took over, Rao revealed the plans to him (Vajpayee). He also asked me to share the details with Vajpayee," Kalam said adding, "Later in May 1998, India conducted nuclear tests." Kalam added that both the leaders had great courage to go ahead with the plan. In 1995, Rao had decided to carry out the nuclear tests, the plans that were reportedly halted after American satellites picked up signs of preparations for testing at Pokhran. It was said that the then American president Bill Clinton exerted pressure on Rao to stop the preparations. Finally, on 11 and 13 May 1998, during Vajpayee's tenure as the Prime Minister, India conducted the tests. |
