Data mining is an ever green field, and there is no end in site. from basic consumer data to space research it will always be a great asset for corporations and scientists alike. there are alot of research options in this field either directly on core mining concepts or its auxiliary branches. Cloud computing - going to be good, but its not a core science for reasearch as of now. A lot of underlying technological enhancements would be the key for its growth. so indirect research options in this field. Image Processing - this was a pretty good field 12 years back when i was looking out for options to choose. it has matured quite a bit, and there are still good possibilities here. especially in space research, but it is a limited field. Networks and security - this is another ever green field, with evolving mobile networks in place, and increasingly online based transactions over all, this will still continue to have a good relevance for quite a bit of time. market wise this might be on the slower side than Minging, Cloud today, but ahead of Image processing fields. | ||

My baams is doing his MTech in Computer Science, and is preparing for his thesis and pursuing his PhD. Coming from a rural background, he got very little guidance, and I encouraged him to go for higher studies etc. He might have plans for PhD later and is very motivated for academics. My knowledge in computer science is zero. He asks me for techincal guidance, that I hesitate to provide. Anyway, he asked me about scope of following fields for bright prospects in future. Can anyone rank them for current market/impact 1. Data mining 2. Cloud computing 3. Image processing 4. Networks and security Or please suggest good topics for thesis, and further education.
