Several former Harley-Davidson Inc. employees have filed a discrimination lawsuit in federal court against Infosys, a staffing firm Harley contracted with to staff its delivery center, according to a story in USAToday. Employees allege that the firm discriminated against American workers by replacing them with temporary workers from South Asia. Infosys, which is based out of India, has disputed the claims saying that the company faced a talent shortage in the U.S. Kelly Parker, one of the former employees that is part of the federal lawsuit, told USAToday that she was laid off in 2013 after she trained her replacement for the tech support position by a person from India. Two years ago, Harley-Davidson announced its plan to contract with Infosys to expand its new delivery center in Milwaukee. The center also included a training center to educate employees on information technology operations and business processes. At the time, Infosys had 17 locations and the center was expected to train 125 people, but that month Harley laid off 125 of its employees and of those, 83 were expected to have “preferential consideration” for Infosys jobs. The decision to outsource IT work was a result of examining Harley’s needs and the industry’s best practices. The move was expected to increase efficiency in managing those functions and free up internal resources to focus on Harley’s “strategic higher-level IT management,” said Bob Klein, senior director of external communications, at the time. In negotiating the deal with Infosys, Harley was “insistent” that it open operations in Wisconsin, Klein said. http://bizjournals.com/milwaukee/news/2014/07/07/former-harl ey-employees-file-discrimination.html?r=full |
