Reddit:

Even now I subscribe to readers digest.

I tried the current version and it was not anywhere close to the older publication - so gave up on it :-)

Filmbuff:

:-) atleast he kept the pictures . Our family moved so many times and magazines were the first to be dumped ..

But good ol days - walking around with a transistor glued to the ear listening to cricket commentary from Sushil Doshi& co before tv became a staple - btw cricket commentary and vividh bharathi mom used to say they will have surgically detach the transistor from my ear :-)

Anand_n:

portstar, sportsworld and sportsweek indeed

One of these was edited by Gavaskar, if i remember. But both Sportsworld and Sportsweek had bad quality print and page quality etc.

Regarding Sportstar, my bloody bugger of a brother just cut out all the full size picture pages, had them filed and sold away the editions so i don't have the text or write ups of many early sportstars. My brother took the "a picture is worth a thousand words" rather literally.

That article took me back in time frowing up on sportstar, sportsworld and sportsweek indeed - and Junior Science digest, CSR , and readers digest - mom used to contribure recipes to Femia/ eve's weekly so those as welll - no dearth of reading material in the house

You all are much younger and probably had more channels but as the article said DD had a great mix of all sport back in 80s

I don't remember reading sportsworld but the other two & Readers digest were a regular thing at home. Even now I subscribe to readers digest.

Sports World used to have good football/soccer coverage - being an Anand bazar patrika publication from Calcutta ..had some fullpage action shots of Socrates, Zico, Paulo Rossi from that mag:-)

Actually i was a never a big fan of the centerspreads as they were just photos of the sportsmen, most of them were not in action...i used to like the mid 80s Sportstars, they used to have some brilliant action photographs by this photographer i grew to admire called Adrian Murrell. I still have all all those page size photographs carefully stored..i need to scan them so that time does not destroy them...if you want to admire a Vengsarkar cover drive or a Greenidge hook shot or Hadlee in full stride, i have all those in glorious Adrian Murrell photos.

I think yes. They would have been of some worth

I used to cycle them - so some ones will go under my mattress so they don't get crumpled and new ones would go up..

Also had maradona, ruud gullit

I used to have one - don't recall when it was published..

Does sportstar have an online archive of their posters ? Would be collectors items now :-)
