Filmbuff bro, Firstly Sangakkara is a great batsmen, but he hasnt shown the same consistency outside subcontinent, ofcourse not saying those pitches are better. but the pressure of playing an away game is different, apart from being technically sound, concentration and handling pressure are other things that are needed to consistently achieve say what Tendulkar, Lara, Kallis, Desilva and others have achieved. Second - Sangakkara is a good speaker, but not as great a leader in my view. i feel Mahela is a better leader and Sanga always had Mahela's help in every which way. Third - Sangakkara has shown his dark side few times, where he appeared to be a sore loser, and i say appeared because, as a viewer i dont get the correct picture always. | ||

Sangakkara for all his records still isnt in the same class as Tendulkar or Lara as a pure batsman. He just has 4 centuries outside sub-continent including this latest Lords Century. Has entered the Test Scene mainly after 2000 which frankly started becoming slightly batting friendly. To give credit to Sachin, he has faced much more stronger and varied attacks and top bowlers across 3 generations. Only real test for Sanga would be having ro face Mitchell Johnson in Australia and Dale Steyn in SA. How many Overseas Series does he have where he's single handedly won for SL? Sanga frankly wudnt even be in the league of Kallis/Ponting/Dravid if we dissect further, except for the overall bloated stats. | ||

I dont think it IS needed. To each his own, he is a batsmen, and he does just that, and i think that should not count against him. Sangakkara on the other hand choose to do what he wanted to do, crusaders for the cause of others and what you believe is a great thing, but when comparing sports persons for their sporting abilities these intangible, unmeasurable are not required. ee lekkana choosthe Kumble handled much more difficult scenario with more maturity than Sangakkara kadha? | ||

This is from Mark Nicholas' article on Cricinfo today - "His career record when chosen not as the wicketkeeper is remarkable and second only to Sir Donald Bradman's. In those 75 matches, he had scored 8242 runs at the stratospheric average of 70.44. " As a batsman the jury might be out,, but as a teamplayer he ranks alongside Kallis and as a leader i think he beats most of them. He has taken very principled and strong stands against the whimsical SL cricket board. I have never seen Tendulkar use his stature to drive change within the BCCI. 58.55 average + wicketkeeping, 70 average if you exclude tests where he was only a batsman, if i remember even Tendulkar never reached an average this high... Kummi kummi vodulutunnadu, inko 2 years adathadu emo, he might not reach Tendulkar's runs but i am sure he will end up with an average better than Kallis or Tendulkar |
