The committee members said that they will be deciding the location of the new capital after taking into consideration several key factors. The committee visited several locations in and around Vizag and held a series of discussions with various central and state organisations. The committee has obtained strategic and technical information from various establishments including the Eastern Naval Command, revenue, railways, urban development wings, industries, tourism, education and medical sectors. Addressing a press conference, committee member and director of the Indian Institute of Public Finance and Policy, New Delhi, Rathin Roy said that the committee would examine various key factors before recommending the Government of India a strategic location to set up the new capital. Roy said that the committee would consider various parameters before framing the recommendations. This would include either developing the existing city for the needs of a new capital or a selecting a new location for the capital. âWe have started the study just now and it is a maiden visit. If necessary, we will visit the city again. We have been collecting the data and technical information of various establishments. We are not asking anyone for opinion, but we are here to collect the data from various departments. The Eastern Naval Command also gave information,â Roy said. When asked whether they would consult the new government of AP, Roy said that they would submit their recommendations only to the Government of India. Talking about Visakhapatnam, the committee members said that it is a beautiful city with all facilities. The members said that they have received certain new information. The committee will also look at other options including Rajahmundry, Vijayawada, Prakasam and Kurnool during this tour. The committee will complete their study and submit the recommendations to the Union government before August 31. Director of National Institute for Urban Affairs Jagan Shah, former dean of School of Planning and Architecture KT Ravindran and director of Indian Institute for Human Settlements Aromar Revi were present at the media conference. Committee chairman KC Sivaramakrishnan is expected to join the team at Vijayawada on May 12. Happy Vizag |
