End of Summer - revisiting an old Ozu movie...chakkaga, haayiga, sagipotha untadhi movie. (4/5) Maltese Falcon - did not like it that much...why is it rated so highly...John Huston has made much better movies, there are better noir movies, and Bogie has acted better in many other movies..Double Indemnnity, the Postman always rings twice are my favourite noir movies, Maltese Falcon is just a plain old fashioned detective story with some double crossing etc. (2.5/5) His Girl Friday - good writing, great acting by Cary Grant and Rosalind Russell, but it was more of a play than a movie, the entire movie taking place on just 2 sets. (3/5) Climates - Turkish movie by Nuri Bilge Ceylan, the guy whose latest movie won the Palme D'Or a couple of days back in Cannes. Climates was on many top 10 movies of the year lists a few years back. I realised i have grown out of such art house fare. The movie was pretty to watch, but whatever happens could have been told in 30 mins, it did not need 90 mins. Too meager and flimsy a story to hold one's attention. It was one of the few movies that i have watched in life without a change in expression - no smile on my face nor a smirk nor a furrowed brow nor a grimace...absolutely no emotions were evoked in me by Climates. (1/5) All in all a sorry weekend fare. |
