We have around 5600 MW of power out of which a large part is thermal and hence less reliant on rains. There is around 2500 MW coming up over the next few months (largest being the 16000 MW plant in Krishnapatnam). There are a lot more in the pipeline but i am discounting that for now. I am also not counting the many others lying idle because of fuel issues - Lanco, GMR, Konaseema etc. As against this 8000 MW of power generation, the total demand is only 4000 MW. Even if we assume that we are able to produce only 7000 MW, there is still a surplus of 3000 MW every year. It will take some time for industries to come up and start using this. Not before 2-3 years atleast. If we take a price of around 6-6.5 per unit for this 3000 MW of power, we are talking about an additional revenue generation potential of 2000 crores every year for 2-3 years, atleast until industries come up to utilise this. Of course these are high level numbers, i don't know the seasonal variation in demand and supply and the actual production numbers, so there might be some +/1. But this is a good number to begin with. |
