I have been to Brazil a few times on work, so this is from personal knowledge and reading..same is the case with many other Latam countries....they are all the most catholic countries on earth (that is why the current pope was selected from Argentina). That is the region where belief in Catholicism is still strong and growing apart from say Philippines. So one can say that they are quite conservative in their religious upbringing, but they are far more liberal than most other countries i know, even the US or many Europe countries. You will find more women out on the streets or metro at 11 or 12 at night than men, more women working out of homes, i went to a sex shop (not to buy anything, but as a sociological study), all the women populating the store were females. Naa mind dobbindhi. Most men are either playing soccer or drinking caipirinhas. I don't understand the delineation between society and culture, but one can be conservative in one's religious beliefs but be a very liberal society. | ||

nenu invalid ani ekkada anaanu sir.. i was just wondering if such a scenario exists. lets see, now there could be gay culture in a society . a conservative, does not mean intrinsically he holds the same attitude towards all the cultures with in the society. liberal / conservative seems to be at a cultural level rather than societal level in most cases. can there be an extension where one could be culturally conservative, but at a broader level is liberal. or is it that i am utterly wrong on my basics here | ||

O cover preview na, i was worried that i did not get my edition...i get my edition by the weekend. The earlier Economist article last month must have set a record in their online comments section. Pichcha pichcha ga adukunnaru mana vallu, what was surprising about that article was that Economist is usually right of centre on economics (free markets, liberalisation, etc etc) but strictly liberal on social topics. But in that article, they took some "presumed" social wrongs, extrapolated it and then used it to override their economics positives to completely change the picture. | ||
