New Delhi: At the end of a highly shrill Lok Sabha election campaign, the Union home ministry has warned states of possible law and order disturbances and resultant communal tension in the coming days.

The advisory comes in the backdrop of recent communal tension in Hyderabad and Meerut and incidentally a day ahead of the counting of votes with the exit polls declaring BJP as forming the next government.

The MHA has also ordered retention of Central forces in sensitive states even after the completion of the election process on Friday.

“We have sent a general advisory to all states. Incidents in Hyderabad and Meerut ought not to have happened in the first place at all,” Union home secretary Anil Goswami told reporters.

The focus on security arrangements post the election scenario across the country became most prominent on Thursday with the Uttar Pradesh government declaring that it has banned victory procession by the BJP to prevent any law and order crisis.

A heavy security deployment is expected to be witnessed in Varanasi on Friday with top Central forces moving in to keep law and order in control.

Nearly 30 companies of Central forces will remain deployed in Varanasi ahead of BJP prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi’s visit on Friday.

On the directions of the MHA, nearly 30 companies of central forces will remain deployed in Telangana to deal with possible disturbances post the election results.

The MHA has also directed tight security measures in Assam where IR battalions dispatched post the recent violence would remain stattioned till further directions.

The MHA has also verbally communicated to the CRPF to retain the forces which are in place for the counting process in various sensitive cities and towns. Written directions on additional stay of the forces may follow on Friday once the post-result situation becomes clear.
