Pardesi - 1/5 Go Goa Gone - 2/5 Julayi - 2/5 (largely for Allu Arjun) Pardesi - thankfully this was in a film festival at India Heritage Centre and i did not have to buy a ticket. Godawful exploitative movie, at its worst. It is not the misery which is painful to watch or the lack of an uplifting ending or some kind of denouement, but the lack of a dramatic turn to events or a movement to the screenplay. Even Pather Panchali is about a poor family or there are quite a few movies in the West about the Holocaust or slavery, but in those movies atleast the characters were regular folks. But in true Bala standards, the hero is a half wit, recluse, scavenging, retard who is then sold (along with others) into bonded labour. This makes it unbearable to watch. You are topping an already exploitation movie about slavery with a further dose of wretched characters. The songs are plaintive aiming to wring out a few more tears just to make sure that nothing is left. Pathetic....mind dobbindhi.. Go Goa Gona - begins with the cult Chiru song - Kashmora Kaugilisthe em chesthavo, wonder why the Hindi heroes are seeing this song though. It is more a homage to Raj and DK's Telugu origins. But apart from this cult beginning, there is not much exciting in the movie. The movie might make better sense if one is stoned, am sure the directors and actors were stoned when they made this movie. It has its moments of slacker humour but it descends into total silliness. It is at best a TV movie or a direct to DVD film. Disappointing fare from Raj and DK. Julayi - Either Trivikram thinks the audience have lost it or he himself has lost it or it is all an experiment in surrealism or magical realism. Screenplay is illogical, songs are pathetic, characterisation is poor, choreography is awful (each and every song has the same steps) and the worst if obviously the makeup of Rajendra Prasad. Allu Arjun though was quite impressive. The best movie of Trivikram still remains Nuvve Nuvve followed by Athadu. |
