Even as the TDP President Chandrababu Naidu and his media are yelling that TDP will win sure shot this time repeating 1999 feat; Jagan is walking away with smiles saying his party will have a historic win at assembly and parliament seats in the seemandhra. What is Mr Jagan Mohan Reddy’s confidence here? To ensure a 1999 repeat TDP allied with none other than BJP especially when there is a Modi wave across the country like no man’s business but Jagan says that the alliance is in no way better than a mess at more than half of its seats the allies shared. On 7 May, 175 Assembly constituencies and 25 Parliament constituencies went to polls and while TDP is contesting in 162 Assembly seats and 21 Parliament constituencies, its ally BJP contested at the rest of the constituencies. Although before the alliance minority support was with Naidu at varying degrees across the Coastal Andhra and the Rayalaseema belts once he established a poll alliance with BJP the minorities alienated Naidu. During 1999 Vajpayee factor helped go in favor of Naidu, however, its not the same now with ‘Modi factor’ as Muslims are aware of the Godra riots and are not willing to pardon Modi. In about 40 Assembly seats of the Coastal Andhra minorities will be the deciding factor and in 15 more constituencies they are going to be influencing factor. While in the Rayalaseema in 25 Assembly constituencies the minorities are an influential section of the population. And there was this choice factor wherein the electorate was called for choosing TDP for the Parliament and BJP for Assembly and vice versa in 39 assembly segments and this has resulted in confusion and a shift of voter base to the next rival YCP. To make things worse TDP had to contest with 16 rebels with two of them in fray in those constituencies that were allotted to BJP. Additionally, TDP tickets were given to 27 Congress leaders and this has resulted in local TDP cadres turning against and uncooperative. While Naidu concentrated on highlighting Jagan’s corruption, Jagan had concentrated on taking his poll promises into people. It is against all this negativity working for Naid that the YSR Congress president Mr Y S Jaganmohan Reddy is exuding confidence he’d come to power at the state getting a clean sweep and get into a commanding position at the center with 20 MP seats. |
