Jaitley leading big in Amritsar.. AAP denting Cong chances by splitting votes.. Telangana This is a surprise state where there is very clear division of votes for parliamentary election as compared to state election. People who are voting for Congress TRS and in some cases even YSRCP (Khairatabad for instance) in the assembly are all voting for BJP as per early trends. If these early trends hold on then this could be another surprise of 2014 like Tamil Nadu and to some extent Odisha. Since the early trends are very surprising, we do not want to make any calls at this point, so you will have to wait till the next report for some analysis. Punjab After the first two hours of polling, AAP had done surprisingly well by scoring almost 22% of votes which is a huge number for the party. This could have potentially created a Delhi assembly election like traction for the Aam Aadmi party, but by 11 AM, the surge had slowed down to some extent. These trends are still too early and AAP may yet perform better than expected, but whatever happens in the end, AAP is probably hurting Congress more than anybody else. SAD-BJP alliance may once again have created a division of anti-incumbency votes to emerge as a clear front-runner. Uttar Pradesh It is almost a one-horse race in UP today, yes the main contest is between BJP and Congress in Awadh, especially in urban pockets with SP and BSP nowhere in race. Yet BJP is far ahead of its rivals all across UP in this phase, including Bundelkhand, although we still have lesser data points here. In Awadh, the Brahmin polarization is almost totally in favour of the BJP which has put all end to the speculation of Brahmins having gone against BJP in the run-up to the polls. |
