Just happened to have chat with a lady journo from TOI who works on women issues. Last month they have been on a project touring the entire Andhra Pradesh. Startling facts about Anantpur. Girls dont dare to come out on their own outside. They come only with parents or known people. This is not the case about late nights or after dark. But even during day time. The situation has detoriated in the last 3 years to such an extent that girls are being sent away from the town even though there is nothing to do outside. But it is not similair to earlier days when there were local warlords going rampant on the streets. It is more of wannabe rowdy sheeters and trouble mongers sprouting around the town in 100s. No single person can be blamed for this but as a whole Anantpur is not safe for women. I am proud to be from Andhra Pradesh where women are shown their place.
