Things to consider Khobragade Case Modi Case Political Initiative Khobragade case is now small fry as this US matter is with Russia. Barrack himself is involved to ferret out Putin's supposed cronies. If US comes up with some kind deal on this case with KVP case, serious serious trouble for KVP. Will Modi be more freindly or less friendly with US also will determine the outcome. Political initiative is there, which is very dangerous, and this is US, if there was no initiative from the US, this file would never have proceeded to indictment. But KVP is an MP, this could be a huge ego issue for India, they might not send a member of their parliament. | ||

Ramachandra Rao faces extradition to the United States to be tried in a Chicago court as the case booked by the FBI against him is an extraditable offence. The US Illinois court has to pass a warrant order and the same has to be transmitted from the FBI in the US through Interpol to the CBI in India. The CBI, while executing the warrant, will have to produce the defendant before the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court (Extradition Court) Patiala in Delhi and once the extradition court gives its nod, he will be taken to the US for trial. The US can even ask for the provisional arrest of the defendant if it feels the urgency. In the recent extradition case of Nerusu Lakshminivas Rao, the CID of AP police followed the same procedure and extradited him to the US after he was arrested here. India and US had signed an extradition treaty in 1997 which states that an offence shall be extraditable whether or not laws in both the US and India place the offence within the same category or describe the offense by the same terminology |
