State: Karnatka Party: BJP Waiver Amount: 3500 cr waiver would apply to loans taken from agriculture cooperative socities between August 1, 2011 and July 25, 2012. An estimated 15 lakh farmers will benefit and the waiver will cost the State government Rs. 3,500 crore. Benefit: approx. 16 lakh Farmers Result: Implemented farmers who took a loan upto Rs. 25000 from cooperative institutions between August 2011 and June 2012 would be eligible for the benefits. |

State: Uttar Pradesh Party: Samajwadi Party Waiver Amount: 1600 cr December 12, 2012, under a 'Debt waiver scheme' for farmers who had mortgaged productive agricultural land to raise loans of up to Rs.50,000 and had paid 10 percent of the principal. Under this scheme, the state-run Sahkari Gram Vikas Bank waived off Rs.1,650 crore worth of loans to 710,000 farmers. All of them were to be issued certificates to this effect by the bank's headquarters in Lucknow. Benefit: approx. 7.20 lakh Farmers Result: Implemented under a 'Debt waiver scheme' for farmers who had mortgaged productive agricultural land to raise loans of up to Rs.50,000 and had paid 10 percent of the principal. |
