Hyderabad: Sanjay Gandhi Yuva Sena (SGYS) activists here on Monday launched an agitation demanding that the Congress high command immediately remove former minister Ponnala Lakshmaiah from the post of Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee president. Apparently to press for their demand, Sanjay Gandhi Yuva Sena president Raghava Goud even climbed atop Gandhi Bhavan building, State Congress party headquarters, and threatened to jump down. However, on receipt of the information, the Begum Bazaar Police rushed to the spot and took Raghava Goud into custody. The irate agitators questioned the Congress high command as how it appointed Ponnala Lakshmaiah as TPCC president even as he had allegedly swindled several crores of rupees in the Jalayagnam program. Raghava Goud declared that he would continue his agitation till Ponnala was stripped off the post of TPCC president. One attempts suicide at Ponnala house In Warangal district, a Congress activist Mahendar Reddy on Monday attempted self-immolation in front of the residence of TPCC president Ponnala Lakshmaiah in Jangaon. According to information, Mahendar Reddy alleged that he was cheated by the TPCC president by denying him a ZPTC ticket. He reportedly poured kerosene on himself and tried to set himself ablaze. In another incident in the district, Congress activists staged a dharna in front of the residence of DCC president Donti Madhava Reddy for giving B-forms to others ignoring the claims of party loyalists. The agitators had heated arguments with the DCC leaders on the issue. |
