I was BA (Manufacturing, ECommerce) before jumping into QA & Testing. BA need to stick to one domain with in depth knowledge and the field becomes narrow. QA & Testing is generic and breadth is wide and can survive irrespective of domain and tech. In big companies, to groom yourself into PMG role (BA line), you need to have Phd in that specific domain from a reputed school. And you need to have a bent of innovation and have some patents. Otherwise your career will continue as Sr. Business Analyst, who is doing functional testing and supporting Pre sales. | ||

I am into QA & Testing from last 9 years. Did both Mgr and ICE roles. Just look at my profile so that you can understand how I played my cards to grab opportunities. I am also into Product Dev company. But the good thing is every 2 years I got opportunity to change product and mgr. I am the senior most QA in CoE. I lead all QA Programmes (Process, Tools) besides Testing. I am member of the Agile Steering committee and give Agile (SCRUM) training in CoE. Bottom line is never stick to one product and never affiliate yourselves to one mgr. After 5 years into testing, One has to look at 'QA' programmes. You need to have a universal acceptance across teams in the Org. You need to play cards very cleverly though it is risky. | ||
