Let's say ur portfolio has 20 stocks from different sectors & lets say one of them in Enron and when Enron went down the max. you lost is about 4% of ur portfolio.

If the only stock in ur portfolio is Enron...ur max. loss is 100%.

Similarly, one diversification saves ur arse when 1 sector goes down like housing.

When market goes down ur % loss of 1 stock Vs many is still the same.
