It was a test given to a bunch of very little kids - they put a marshmallow on their desk and said you can eat it now but if you wait 15 mins to eat it it we will give you another one..

20 years later they tracked these kids and founs that the kids who had waited for the 2nd one were much more successful than those who had not

Basically kids who learn to resist impulses/short term gratification for longer term rewards are more successful ani

there will be a 3rd variety of kids..who don't care about whether having or not having..basically not connected to some of these.

.meaning they don't care whether they get the first one..or not get the second one..not sure valla paristhithi enti ani

ante basic ga first generation kids (and eventual grown-ups) from the India (or others from similar family cultures/values) relative ga better leaders ayye chance vundi compare to say people who were born and brought up in developed world ani; especially with the businesses that are all over the global presence. they will have more empathy and won't treat people like another # ani vaalla study anukondi. ide families lo 3rd generation kalla aa quality will disappear and they become another "local" ani antannaru.

I am not sure about this because I have very low opinion about Yale/Harvard/Stanford studies; however that opinion stems from their record on economic theories. lot of their theories and forecasts failed in real world. No one really predicted the black swan events.

behavioral science lo probably better emo.

They were talking bout the old marshmallow test, the link t0 emotional intelligence of kids that learn to control impulses at an early age...

The thought was these kids have more inherent constraints on their behavior and learn to resist impulses/temptations coming from a higher need to prove themselves... this enhancesemotional intelligence keeps them out of trouble in later years ani valla theory

They are looking at the general population of students and success of these students:-)And Fareed asked the same question most do - "While it makes me happy that Indians are in group, being an Indian American myself - why does that not manifest so much in India" And the answer they gave was the first 2 factors do not apply for someone in their home country :-)

AFAIK i know all the greatest things invented in history, whether it is a company or invention. It is always a non-caucasian race that has improved upon something the western man built.

Remember our disco on Indian CEOs and what I said about sensibilities and insecurity ...

Listening to GPS now - Yale study on on traits that lead to success and why certain groups of people(asians, Indians, Mormons, Nigerians) are more successful...they did a study on why some minorities are more successful and listed 3 factors :

1. Exceptionality ( a sense of being different culturally, religiously, talent wise)
2. Insecurity ( need to prove yourself, be accepted)
3. Impulse control ( this again is cultural, some cultural sensibilities build impulse control and hence higher impulse control)

They also stated that these advantages totally disappear by third generation :-)
