John ford: (I did not get it though) A young would-be director once came to him for advice, and Ford pointed out two landscape photographs in his office. One had the horizon at the top of the picture, and the other had it at the bottom of the picture. Ford said "when you know why the horizon goes at the top of the frame or the bottom of a frame, then you're a director," and threw the kid out of his office. The would-be director was Steven Spielberg. | ||

The thing that i most admired about ford is his framing. He had an architetural grasp of space, Sight and Sound once commented. After seeing a few movies, you can make out from the visuals that ford is the director. Just like you can make out bapu's visuals. | ||

Legendary Director... Some of his great movies I've watched - The Grapes of Wrath - With evergreen Henry Fonda Stagecoach - with Duke (Claire Trevor the lead actress was billed above Duke) The Searchers - with Duke again The Man who Shot Liberty Valance - Jimmy Stewart and Duke - an awesome combination Young Mr. Lincoln - With everygreen Henry Fonda The Last Hurrah - with super Spencer Tracy --- How Green was my Valley, The Informer, The Quiet Man are still in my watchlist, which I would definitely watch "You know how to whistle, don't you, Steve? John ford is one of my favourite directors. Iron horse ane silent movie choodu, fantastic, theesi 90 years ayina, you will be spellbound. I became a fan of his after watching one of his few non-westerns - How green was my valley, as a teenager. | ||
